Tree Planting Sept. 27 at Frankenlust Twp Nature Park

The ReLeaf Michigan speaker Gary Eichen suggested in May that we use his speaker fee to plant more trees. So we looked for opportunities and found that trees are needed at the Frankenlust Township Nature Park in Bay County. The restoration of this park was featured in an April 2023 Mid-Mitten program by Martin Arford, a SVSU professor who was involved on the township park committee at the time. Please come help in the group effort to plant 8 birch trees and put cages around them to deter deer and rabbits.

Saturday 9/27 at 10:00am -about 12:30pm at Frankenlust Twp Nature Park, corner of Hotchkiss Road and Three Mile Road, Bay county. Bring your own gloves, kneeling pad, shovel, and water bottle. We could also use a post hole digger, wire cutters, rakes, and a measuring tape for the group, so bring if you have them.

We will be planting the trees around a large pond; be prepared for some walking on stone-covered trails. We need volunteers to bring snacks too - such as donuts, muffins, cookies, or fruit juice. The trees are donated by the Midland Conservation District and our Mid-Mitten chapter is buying the fencing.

Other family members, teens, and neighbors are welcome to attend. Please RSVP to [email protected] if you are coming so we know how many to expect. In case of weather changes, you will be notified.
